Opening Series Sweep Propels Monarchs

SIOUX CITY – 3-game sweep to start the season for the Monarchs (3-0) in Iowa this past weekend, here’s a recap.

Ashton Goudeau (1-0), who threw five scoreless innings, started the first game in the series for the Monarchs. “Just throw strikes, be aggressive,” Goudeau said after the game. “I think later on I was able to get breaking balls more consistent in the zone. I think it was a good foundation to start, and I’m excited for the next one.”

No doubt Ashton Goudeau will be the number one starting pitcher for the Monarchs for the duration of the season, after being more of a bullpen/closer type pitcher. Game 1 win provides the needed motivation for KC going into the season, in their quest to go back-to-back.

J.C. Keys (1-0) started on the mound for the second game in the opening series, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs in his time on the mound, Yefry Ramirez replaced him in the bottom of the fifth inning.

After an early 3-0 start in the first five innings, the monarchs rallied back to score 9 unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings, opening the game up. The monarch won 9-4.

Dalton Moats (1-0), making his first appearance for the 2024 season, only allowed 1 run off a Nick Shumpert home run in the bottom of the second inning. Was the only run that Sioux City would score during the game.

Opening series sweep for the monarchs, propelling them into their next series against Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks starting Monday, May 13.
