A 9 Year Drought Comes to An End

The Kansas City Royals are making a long awaited appearance in the MLB postseason after a 9 year drought. 9 years ago, the Royals won the World Series for the 2nd time in franchise history.

After finishing the regular season at 86-76, and a 3.8% chance of winning the World Series, Kansas City looks to make a stand after the playoff drought.

Star player Bobby Witt Jr. leads the charge, starting in 161 games, Witt Jr. was the best player in the MLB after the all-star break, racking a total of 211 hits, first in the American League and 32 home runs in the season, ranking at 9th. Bobby also ranks 4th in stolen bases with 31. Bobby is here to stay in KC too, signing a new $148.7 million contract prior to the 2024 season, keeping him in the city through the 2030 season.

Vinnie Pasquantino is also a name worth noting. After breaking his thumb, Vinnie missed the last month of regular season play, but could make his return in the wild card round of the playoffs. After 99 games this season, Pasquantino had a batting average of .258, the third highest on the team. Manager Matt Quatraro simply said Pasquantino is “a good hitter, “We hit him third every night because he can hit righties, lefties (and) he drives in runs.”

The Royals will first head to Baltimore to take on the Orioles in the wild card round. Catch the action on ESPN and ESPN2.
