Sporting Kansas City Faces Crucial Match Against Colorado Rapids Amid Playoff Race Pressure

KANSAS CITY – Sporting Kansas City starts a short stretch of 3 games in 6 days in Colorado tonight at 8:30 PM CT. They take on the Colorado Rapids in a “must-win” game for Kansas City as they sit at the bottom of the table and can only afford to lose one more game this year before they are out of the playoff race.

Colorado on the other hand is having an up year as they sit at fifth place in the Western Conference and look to continue pushing up the table. Winning three of their last four games, Colorado has looked very good as of late with wins over St Louis, Austin, and Montreal.

Colorado will be without Kevin Cabral as he will be serving a suspension from his red card vs LAFC last week. Outside of Cabral, the Rapids should be fairly full strength leading up to tonight’s match.

SKC on the other hand was struggling with injuries but their guys are starting to come back slowly but surely. Rosero, Walter, and others were back in training this week as they look to make their return soon.

The front line for SKC has been on fire as of late scoring 33 goals so far this season. Erik Thommy seems to be back in form. Young guns Alenis Vargas and Stephen Afrifa have been performing very well themselves. What has been holding the team back recently is their back line. The back line has allowed 44 goals this season and has consistently cost the team many results. This changed, however, against Austin FC as they managed to only allow 2 shots; none of them being on goal. They also recorded their second clean sheet of the season.

So, if the back line plays how they did against Austin, this could be a good away trip for SKC. But if they go back to their old ways, fans should expect no different from the recent results.
