AUSTIN – Sporting Kansas City fell to Austin FC on Saturday. Sporting, in the last five MLS Regular Season matches, four losses and one draw. Austin, on the other hand, one draw, one loss and three wins, with two wins in a row (HOU on May 15 and SKC on May 18). Sporting Kansas City has not won a match since March 30 in Toronto.
Captain Johnny Russell scored his first goal of the season, coming in the 19th minute. “Conceiving any claim is frustrating, but way before the half and right after the half is probably the most frustrating thing to do.” Russell said about how he felt after Sebastián Driussi scored right after halftime.
Jake Davis got his second goal of the season and in his time with the first team. Davis is tied for fourth in goals for Sporting this season, tied with defender Dany Rosero and midfielder Remi Walter. 21-yards out from the goal, Jake sends a missile into the back of the net. Austin goalkeeper Brad Stuver attempted to block the ball from passing the goal line but came up just inches short of putting a hand on it.
Sporting will come back and prepare to face FC Tulsa this coming Wednesday for the U.S. Open Cup round of 16 at Children’s Mercy Park. A short break then to the northwest to take on the Portland Timbers on Saturday, May 25.
