Sporting Kansas City Hires Mike Burns as Sporting Director

KANSAS CITY – Sporting Kansas City announced Friday that they have made a new hire to the technical staff. Mike Burns will join the team with the sporting director position.

Burns, a former MLS and USA national team player played seven seasons of professional soccer, including two with the Wizards (now Sporting Kansas City). Previously with the New England Revolution as the General Manager and part of the technical staff, he helped the Revolution win four Eastern Conference championships and one U.S. Open Cup championship. He joined New England as the Director of Soccer before moving to Vice President of Player Personnel and then to GM. Mike will serve as  Sporting’s player recruitment and roster-building strategy. He will also help continue developing the professional player pathway at Sporting Kansas City. 

Burns will attend the upcoming game against Austin FC this Saturday and be introduced on Tuesday of next week.
