COLUMBUS – Columbus shows their form and proves why they deserve to be contenders for MLS Cup for the second year in a row. Sporting Kansas City shows their for as well; allowing goals and not getting results.
SKC showed chances early with Willy Agada having a decent look but missing the target. Columbus continued to attack with power with Aiden Morris playing top tier soccer in his last game with the club. Kayden Pierre was defending well until he came out with an injury early on. Khiry Shelton replaced him in the 32nd Minute.
Shortly after, Columbus found their first goal. John Pulskamp kept Columbus at a stalemate for a while with many impressive saves but it simply wasn’t enough. During stoppage time of the first half, Columbus found their second. Once again, defensive miscues were the house of horrors for SKC.
Starting the second half, SKC made many changes including Johnny Russell, Alenis Vargas, and Andreu Fontas. This did not hold up well for SKC down the road. Pulskamp made a fantastic 1v1 save but the rebound fell right to a unmarked Columbus attacker who slotted it home for the third goal.
Just four minutes later Columbus found their fourth goal. This goal came off a free kick that split the wall of SKC defenders and into the bottom left of Pulskamp’s goal.
SKC made efforts at the end of the match to salvage a goal or two bringing in young star, Jake Davis. This unfortunately was not enough for Sporting.
Columbus Crew wins at home 4-0 recording their eighth win of the season. SKC also records their 12th loss of the season.
Sporting Kansas City is back in action at home on June 29 facing Austin FC.
