SAN JOSE – A wet and slippery pitch didn’t stop Sporting Kansas City from getting their first road win since March 30th in Toronto with a 2-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes. Daniel Salloi got his 200th appearance tonight. Salloi became a United States citizen a few weeks ago prior to the match against Austin FC. 46 goals in his time with the team since 2017 in MLS regular season matches and an additional 5 in MLS playoffs.

It was a “slippery” start to the match, looking very similar to the match against FC Dallas on Wednesday in the US Open Cup quarterfinals. An early, unplanned substitution after Dany Rosero went down with a hamstring injury in the 20’, giving Robert Castellanos his first substitute appearance of the season and his eighth overall appearance. A goal from Alan Pulido in the 45+5’ was taken back for Pulido being a step offsides.
Halftime adjustments from Sporting Kansas City allowed Erik Tommy in the 48’ to open up the game 1-0 with a rocker of a ball into the back of the net. Erik Thommy’s goal was the 1,300th goal in SKC club history and his fifth of the season. Alan Pulido gets his chance once again and stays onside, grabbing a 2-0 lead in the 57’. Khriy Shelton gives San Jose life with an own goal in the 83’ but Sporting Kansas City holds San Jose to no additional points and gains a one-point advantage on cross-state rival St. Louis City heading out of matchday 26.
Sporting KC will head up the road to Vancouver to take on the Whitecaps, this upcoming Wednesday and looks to improve and make a playoff push.
