KANSAS CITY – Saturday night Sporting Kansas City celebrated retro night, dawning the throwback kit that features wizards across the chest. After an up-and-down season, Sporting looked to rekindle some nostalgic magic and grab three points against the visiting Orlando City.
Both offenses were held in check with neither club scoring throughout the first forty minutes, but that changed in the waning moments of the first half when Jake Davis fired a ball with his left to the far goalpost. The goal brought Sporting Kansas City out of the zero-zero tie, and it ended up being all they needed.
Right out of the second-half gates, Sporting was looking for some insurance and got it when Daniel Salloi received a beautiful assist from Erik Thommy and proceeded to do the opposite of Jake Davis and nail the ball into the near-sided corner of the goal.
Twelve minutes were added as extra time as the match wrapped up and it was just enough for KC to secure one more goal. In the 92nd minute, Remi Walter sailed a shot in from the apex of the semi-circle, providing Sporting with an impressive three-nil win.
Sporting will now prepare for Indy Eleven in the Open Cup tournament, while Orlando City must shift their eyes quickly to their August 31st opponent, Nashville.
