High Stakes Showdown: Kansas vs. UNLV – What to Watch For in This Exciting Matchup

This evening, Kansas Football will host the Rebels from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. The visitors from Sin City arrive to take on the Jayhawks who dropped their first game of the season last week on a visit to Champaign against their BIG 10 foe, Illinois. One non-conference match remains for KU, their matchup against UNLV tonight at 6. The game is the second Kansas home game taking place in Children’s Mercy Park, the home of Kansas City’s MLS team, Sporting Kansas City.

Tonight look for the Kansas offense to take advantage of a weak UNLV secondary by spreading the ball with Jalon Daniels early. Daniels, who was picked off three times in the loss to Illinois, is looking to bounce back in a big way tonight. His counterpart at running back, Devin Neal had a lot of success in the running game and is looking to continue that tonight, but the question is will he get the ball? Fans of the Jayhawks repeatedly questioned Offensive Coordinator Jeff Grimes’ decision to continue throwing the ball in the loss despite Neal’s electric play. It was simple for them: “Run the ball”. Excluding the expletives from multiple comments this is likely the recipe for success tonight as Kansas has one of the best rushing attacks in the Big 12.

Tonight is a rematch from last year’s Guaranteed Rate Bowl where KU won their first Bowl Game under Lance Leipold in a shootout against UNLV in the home of the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Even with a win under their belt against the Rebels, Kansas is doing its best to avoid complacency and prevent a second straight loss before conference play begins. You can watch the game tonight at 6 PM on ESPN.
