The Associated Press released the AP Poll rankings for the upcoming 2024 college football season, the first time since 2009. Kansas sits at number 22 going into the season.
Kansas was ranked in the US LBM Coaches Poll at number 24, the first time they have been ranked in both major polls since 2008. Kansas finished last season at 9-4 and won the Guaranteed Rate Bowl 49-36 over UNLV. Kansas will face UNLV this season on September 13 at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
Kansas also holds 7 different players on 11 different watch lists going into the season. Jalen Daniels is up for Comeback Player of the Year as well as the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, and Davey O’Brien Award. Cornerback Cobee Bryant also holds a spot on 3 watch lists, the Chuck Bednarik Award, the Bronko Nagurski Award, and the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award. Jalen Daniels is coming back from a back tightness injury that had him sidelined for the vast majority of the season last year, only playing in three games last season, vs Illinois, at Nevada, and vs BYU. Completing the season with 705 yards on 56 completions and an average completion percentage of 74.7%, Daniels was a Heisman contender going into the season before getting injured. The odds were not in his favor, a long shot at more than +4000, but he was still a candidate.
Progress on the new David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium continues, but will not be ready for the upcoming season. Kansas will play their home games at Children’s Mercy Park, home of MLS team Sporting Kansas City, and GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the World Champion Kansas City Chiefs. Here is a look at the process of the stadium from above as of July 12, 2024.
