NFL Week 1 Recap: Super Bowl Champions Win in Opener, WR Detained, 4-Year Extension, And Others

The NFL opened up the 2024 season this week in Kansas City with a game between the Chiefs and the Ravens, an AFC Championship rematch, followed by the first NFL game in South America, Philadelphia Eagles vs Green Bay Packers. A lot went down this week. Let’s recap.

Chiefs Win in Opener

The Kansas City Chiefs took a 27-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens in the 2024 NFL season opener. Reigning league MVP Lamar Jackson and the Ravens opened up the game with a 5-yard Derrick Henry rush to the end zone. Mahomes and Company quickly followed with a 21-yard run by rookie Xavier Worthy. Worthy got his first touchdown on his first touch of his NFL career. A moment he will never forget. Winning by a toe, the Chiefs advanced to 1-0 on the season

Saquon 3x to the house with new team

Saquon Barkley joined the Philadelphia Eagles over the offseason after becoming a free agent. Barkley found the end zone three times in the game in Sao Paulo, one in the air and the other 2 on the ground. The running back amassed 24 carries for 109 yards and an additional 23 yards in the air. Barkley making an instant impact with the Eagles.

Tyreek Hill detained outside Hard Rock Stadium

Tyreek Hill was taken into handcuffs after being pulled over just outside of Hard Rock Stadium. Cited with reckless driving/speeding, Hill was released and started in the game, a 20-17 win. Tyreek made a 80-yard touchdown catch in the 3rd quarter, adding to the Dolphins score. The Dolphins ultimately ended up winning with a game-winning 52 yard field goal.

Prescott new 4-year extension

Prior to Sunday’s action, the Dallas Cowboys announced they have signed a 4-year, $240 million ($231m guaranteed) extension with franchise quarterback, Dak Prescott. With an added pay grade and NFL record, ‘America’s Team’ faced the Browns in ‘The Game of The Week’. With added motivation and hype, the Cowboys dominated the Browns, winning 33-17.

Kickoff rules solved

Cardinals’ running back DeeJay Dallas takes the ball 96-yards after a kickoff in the forth quarter, the two point conversion is good after the return, making the score 31-28. The Cardinals ended up losing 34-28.

Last second field goal

Sunday’s NFL action ended with the Rams playing the Lions in the city of this year’s draft, in a last-second field goal, similar to a Jaguars at Dolphins 52-yard field goal. Stunning the Los Angeles team, 26-20 in overtime, Detroit takes a one-up heading into week 2 where they will face Tampa Bay.

Rodgers back between the lines

After tearing his Achilles on the 3rd snap with the Jets, Aaron Rodgers is back in action. He came back in the best way, playing the Super Bowl runner-up on Monday night. Totaling 167 yards and 1 touchdown, but throwing an interception in his first four frames of football in almost a year. Aaron running a bit more gingerly and being lighter on his feet, trying to keep his health in the game at 40 years young.
