Kansas City Hosts Semifinals of NWSL x Liga MX Feminil Summer Cup at World’s First Purpose-Built Women’s Soccer Stadium

KANSAS CITY – The semifinals of the NWSL x Liga MX Feminel Summer Cup are taking place both at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, MO. BOTH semifinals are happening in KC at the first purpose-built women’s soccer stadium in the world.

The first semifinal taking place is Gotham FC (out of New York) and Angel City FC (out of Los Angeles). This match is at 4 PM CT. This game could be very toasty with the high temperature reaching 87 degrees at 4. This is A LOT better than the day prior as it was 100 at 4 pm here in KC.

The second semifinal is the hosts, The Kansas City Current and The North Carolina Courage. This match is at 8 PM CT. This game will be a completely different dynamic as not only will it be nearly ten degrees cooler by then, but, KC will also have their home crowd behind them. All other teams will not have many supporters, if any.

This situation is very interesting. This summer cup was meant to highlight both the teams in Liga MX and the NWSL. However, it ended up showing how much of a higher level the NWSL is at. Especially considering no Liga MX teams made it to the semifinals. The other thing I might add about this cup is the scheduling. It is the “Summer Cup” so it should be played in the summer, right? Well, kind of. All the group games, summer. The semifinals, summer. But the final… October. Yes. You heard that right. The championship game for the SUMMER CUP is October 25th. Granted, this has a lot to do with making sure the schedules aren’t flooded with games as league play picks back up soon. But surely, the NWSL could’ve found at least one day not at the end of October.

The first semifinal should be a unique game. Always hard to predict games like these but, Gotham sits at 4th in the league and Angel City sits at 11th. Take that information how you want. The thing Angel City has going for them is, that Gotham has many USWNT players participating in the Olympics. So, this means they will be running low on quality players. Some of these players include Rose Lavelle and Lynn Williams. This game should be fun to watch. If you have tickets, the tickets get you access to BOTH games. So, if you’re free, why not?

As for the Current, the momentum they built has continued into this tournament they are 3-0 and have been missing key players as well. Other players have stepped up big time in return. Temwa Chawinga has missed the last two games, but Debinha has stepped up big time and scored three goals in the last two games! If KC continues to play their best and the team picks each other up, I almost guarantee a win and advancement into the final.

Each game will be streamed on CBS Sports Network. Once again, the times are 4 PM and 8 PM CT!
