What It Means To Win The US Open Cup

Sporting Kansas City will play LAFC in the US Open Cup final tonight at 9:30p after beating Union Omaha in the Round of 32, FC Tulsa in the Round of 16, and FC Dallas most recently in the Semifinals. Yesterday, SKC traveled to Los Angeles in search of the club’s 5th Cup.

Keeper Tim Melia commented after Saturday’s loss Minnesota on how much a win in LA would mean for the club saying “Its an opportunity to play a final, if you add up every players opportunities to play a final, Its not a big number,” Tim also said a well known fact, “They are very had to get to, they are very hard to achieve, and we have an opportunity in a year where we haven’t done well. So, I mean, that should be massive extra motivation for us.”

LAFC also has some motivation on their side of the field as well, the first Open Cup trophy in the clubs history. It would be the second piece of hardware for the LA club after a MLS Cup in 2022 after a 3-3 (3-0 pen) win over the Union of Philadelphia.

A ‘Hollywood Ending’ some might say as the two MLS teams clash in the non-MLS tournament final. The match can be viewed for free on Apple TV+ starting at 9:20p or listen on Sports Radio 810 WHB for live coverage.
